Decided to head to the new Toyosu Market. It has replaced Tsukiji Market as the place for fresh fish and the auction. It is brand-new, all shiny and modern. It doesn’t have the charm of the old market, but it is the future of the fish market in Tokyo.
While there, you have to have sushi, and I didn’t want to go to the big names like Daiwa or Sushi Dai – the queue is too long for me. So I went with 岩佐寿司, Iwasa Sushi.
One of the reasons I went with Iwasa is because when I got there – no queue! Walked right in and was seated at the counter.
The place is not too big, but can seat quite a few. Very few counter seats – which to me, are what you want when you eat sushi. You want to see the action right in front of you!
One of my friendly chefs making my course
I have rarely seen a sushi chef in Japan who is unhappy. They love what they do.
My Maguro Course. Tuna is the thing at the market, it is the freshest and cheapest you can get.
Check out my Otoro!
It’s not enough though. I need the Omakase course too!
Uni is just awesome.
Even fattier Otoro!
Trust me when I say this – almost all the sushi there is the same! All the chefs are professionally trained, there may be some difference in the rice and seasonings, but in the end, fresh fish, good chefs – great sushi at any shop there!
If it’s your first time, maybe you want the experience of Sushi Dai or Daiwa. But, any shop will do it for you, no need to queue for 2 hours.
And yes, please go in the morning!
