B For Bagel – Tanglin Mall

One of the things I miss the most about New York City food are the Bagels.

In Asia nothing comes close. Most of the time it’s bread passed off as Bagels.

So it was with anticipation that I tried B For Bagel, a Korean Bagel chain, at Tanglin Mall.

I started with the Chia Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese. Actually, I had no idea it was Chia, I thought it was Poppy Seed. Which made me happy because Poppy Seed Bagels are good. And then the schmear was on the side, but who doesn’t use all the cream cheese given on the Bagel? Could have saved some dishes and utensils.

But to the Bagel. They heat it up so that the Bagel was pretty crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. It was a good Bagel. Makes me wonder what it would be like without being heated up, because most people I know don’t toast or heat up their Bagels.

Next was the Salt and Butter Bagel. I had never been a fan of Salt Bagels until one day when I realized it was similar to a Pretzel. Then I tried. And it definitely is better with Butter than Cream Cheese.

In this case, the Bagel was also pretty crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. Not a bad bagel. I did enjoy it.

Then I tried the Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel, substituting the plain bagel with a Sesame Bagel.

The filling was meh to me, but the bagel was again, crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle.

While the Bagels were good, the price, as with all Bagel places in Singapore, is horrific. Why does a Bagel with Cream Cheese cost upwards of SGD$8 (USD$5.80)? And the Sandwich for SGD$13?

I miss NYC Bagels…
