Jet lag sucks. There is nothing about it that is good. So you look for silver linings when you have jet lag. One of those is that when you wake up at 4 in the morning, you can go to Geylang and get dim sum.
搵到食 126 Eating House is a 24 hour dim sum place in Geylang. Located on Sims Avenue between Lorong 15 and 17, right at the traffic light crossing, it’s non-descript, pretty much a hole in the wall.
The menu is extensive. With pictures, Chinese and English, it’s about 19 pages. But you still struggle to find things to order sometimes.
It was pretty busy at 5 in the morning, full of some drunks, some off-duty prostitutes and just people out early, maybe even some jet lagged people too. So we decided to da bao and eat at home.
Siew Mai and Har Gow. Two must haves at dim sum. These were nice, meaty and flavorful. If you don’t have good Siew Mai and Har Gow, you are not a good dim sum house.
I went for some fried Prawn Dumplings. These were outstanding. So meaty inside and flavorful and fried nice and crisp. These were definitely not sitting around. Sometimes I hesitate to order fried items at dim sum as I don’t know how long they have been sitting around.
Your Lor Mai Gai. A little small, but I wasn’t sure what was inside.
OK, some rice, some meat and some peanuts. Salty as all hell, not to my liking.
Prawn Chee Cheong Fun. This was nicely done. The rice sheets were not too thick and the sauce was sweet, to Lena’s liking.
I had a craving for congee, so I went for Cuttlefish and Minced Pork Congee. Nice and thick, just the way I like it!
And of course Chicken Feet. I love these and these were nicely done, not too spicy, not too sweet.
