Chocolate. Do you have it as a snack? For a meal? How about for breakfast? Sure, why not! But in Madrid, you can have your chocolate, but why not have it with Churros? That’s the way to do it in Madrid, especially at Chocolateria San Gines, where it has been happening for a very long time.
The queues are long, but once you get in, you find a spot and wait for the goodness.
The menu is simple. Churros or Porras, and then Chocolate or Coffee.
Churros are thin, Porras are more thick. So we order and we sit down and watch the experienced waiters carry it all around to waiting hungry customers.
The chocolate comes first. It is so thick, not too sweet and not bitter. It’s pretty rich though.
Then the Churros came. Wow, these are amazing! Not greasy, nice and crispy, soft inside as well. Great on their own, and even better dunked in the chocolate.
As much as I like the idea of chocolate and churros, I couldn’t really do the chocolate. It was too thick and rich for me, but I can see the attraction.
I’ll take the churros on their own! Maybe dipped in ice cream. : )
