Being American and knowing all about Americanized Chinese Food, I am very skeptical when a Singaporean restaurant claims it is based on American-style Chinese food. Chop Suey kind of promotes itself that way with the food and the name of the restaurant. Does it compare?
There is no General Tso’s Chicken or Moo Shoo Pork, but the menu is catered more towards local tastes and flavors.
Singapore Chili Soft Shell Crab – a nice dish, with really spciy sauce!
Lemongrass & Lime Poached Barramundi – very, very Thai-centric in flavors and execution
Fresh Crab Omelette- more Chinese, but this was very light and flavorful. And I was really surprised it was in a broth!
Sweet and Sour Pork Collar – great tastes in this one as well, not too sweet, not too sour, not too spicy
Roasted Spring Chicken with Cinnamon Five-Spice Salt – so tender and crispy, really well executed
Satay – Not the greatest, but an okay version
I was honestly very surprised at how much I liked the dishes here. It does not need to represent itself as an Americanized Chinese Food restaurant. Asian Flavors done right – that’s all they need.
I will be back.
