A lot of people will tell you that Mattar Road Seafood BBQ at Old Airport Road has the best chili crab in Singapore. I don’t disagree. I also think it’s one of the best.
Located in the back row of the food centre, the couple that runs it has been there for a long time and the chili crab is to die for. They open around 5pm, and get really, really busy towards 6-7pm, so get your orders in quick!
Now they have other seafood, but looking at the two cages in front full of crab, you know what they specialize in – crab. Any style you want it. People prefer the chili and black pepper crabs, but I also like it plain, with ginger and scallions. Today, it was chili crab.
The sauce is not too sweet, not too spicy, it’s a nice complement to the crab. The crab itself is great, and they best part of it is that there is no difference in price between female and male crabs. So always get the female with the eggs! The meat is sweeter and the crab roe makes the sauce much better.
I always keep coming back here for the crabs. I know they have other things, but I never really order them. The stingray is better at other stalls and you come here for crabs.
