진옥화할매원조닭한마리 is an institution in Seoul for it’s Dakhanmari, or whole cooked chicken. This is done simply, using water, potatoes and scallions.
The place is pretty packed and the queues can get quite long.
When you sit down, they bring you a whole chicken with potatoes and scallions and start the fire.
Then they come and cut up the chicken for you. The chicken is half cooked at this point, when they bring it to you. Let it cook and you’re done! You can order things to add such as noodles, ramen, other items if you want.
What comes on the side is this red pepper sauce that is just fantastic. It’s spicy, but you need to use some, or something else, as the chicken in soup is a little plain tasting.
Dunk that chicken right in the sauce!
Good meal, but would I queue a very long time for it? Not really.
