Sometimes people just like a good Sliced Fish or Fried Fish Soup or Bee Hoon. I like the thick bee hoon with the fried fish myself, and I find that one of the best is Kallang Sliced Fish Soup at Block 84 Marine Parade, right across from Parkway Parade. This is one of those old hawker centres, that looks like it’s been around for a long time, and it has. The stall owners here recently turned down the upgrading program, mainly because they are still at the end of their loans to buy the stalls, and want to earn enough to pay it off and then let it upgrade. They didn’t want to pay a loan when they would be out of work for nine months, or have to relocate to earn money.
You can get Sliced Fish Soup, Fried Fish Soup and add rice to each, or you can get noodles with your soup. As I said before, I like it with thick bee hoon, and I like to add some chili to it to give it a little kick in the soup. I take the chili out after a few minutes, I just like to infuse a little spice into it. And I usually ask them not to add the milk to it. But this time, I asked for a little bit.
Nice flavor, the soup is nice and good. The fish could be a little bigger in size though, but it’s still one of the best Sliced Fish stalls around.
What happened to the stall at Marine Parade ?
Did something happen to the owner or has he move to somewhere else ?
