We had a birthday celebration and trying to find a place to have a celebration during Chinese New Year is tough as a lot of places only have set menus. But Song Garden, located at the Mercure Bugis, did have an a la carte menu in addition to the set menus.
Dinner for 13 here we go!
Carrot Cake. Pretty decent, hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Salted Egg Prawns. Really heavy on the Salted Egg. The Prawns were fresh for sure and a really good dish. More Salted Egg! Salmon Skin. This one also quite heavy on the Salted Egg. The Skin was crispy and you can’t fault it.Scallops with Asparagus and Black Garlic. I had no idea it was Black Garlic, I thought it was licorice! Fresh and seasoned nicely. Sweet and Sour Pork. This was a standout to me. Outstanding! Crispy, not a lot of batter and the pork was fresh and tender inside. The other great item here are the little balls of Lychee juice that squirt when bit into. A nice little surprise. Roast Chicken with Bean Curd Skin on Pancake. Quite interesting. Like Peking Duck but not 10 percent as good. Roast Duck. Pretty flavorful and tender. Fried Rice with prawns and mini abalone. This was dry and not really good. Seafood Tofu Hot Pot. This was pretty good. Tender, tofu was nice as well. Roasted Pork Belly and Crispy Pork. The Siew Bak was good, but the Pork Belly was only average. Longevity Buns. Run of the mill. Excellent dinner, tasty, fresh and good. But yikes! The price tag was not small for this! S$700+ after ++. Too rich to have this all the time for me!
