The Portland food scene is pretty good, and it’s not just about Food Truck Pods. There are some good restaurants, and James Beard winners. Andy Ricker, winner of Best Chef Northwest in 2011 has a flagship restaurant specializing in Northern Thai cuisine with a local twist. He has an empire now with other locations in different cities. We decided to try out the original Pok Pok on a rainy Saturday night.
It was about a 30 minute wait at 6pm, and once inside it was pretty crowded and cramped. A bunch of different rooms in a weird complex of sorts. It was definitely a good atmosphere, reminding me of those crowded places in Thailand.
First off, the famous Pok Pok Chicken Wings. Marinated in Fish Sauce and Sugar and then fried, all I have to say is wow. What a great taste to these wings!
We love Claypot Tang Hoon. This has a Chinese influence and it was Prawns with Pork Belly. What a great Thai/Chinese taste!
Chiang Mai style Curry. Pork Belly and Shoulder with Ginger, Sugar, Tumeric, Tamarind and Burmese Curry. Wow, what a great taste. Nothing wrong here. What an eating experience. I want to go back and try different things. Next time!
